Bill's Story

Diagnosed in 1991.

Since then (1992) stopped drinking alcohol and quit smoking cigarettes in 1989. Was treated twice (1yr.ea. time) with Intron A, second time Intron A and Ribavirin. I responded well, but relapsed both times.

I try to take care of myself, watch what I eat, drink and get plenty of exercise. I am 52, and according to my doc. will likely die of something other than liver disease. I wish I could get over the damaging chirrosis.

I felt bad for a few weeks, then sort of hit a plateau of malise. Light exercise helped, and plenty of sleep. I seem to have tolerated the Intron better than some that I have heard. My only observation is change your lifestyle, eat right, plenty of rest, give the doctors your complete cooperation (no use lying to them) and accept your fate. You may get over it, you may have to get a transplant. You are uninsurable, so take it easy and one day at a time. The future will take care of itself.
